David Carvalhão on whether outsourced thinking makes humans smarter or obsolete, and AI's impact on work and society.
From DNA to AI: The History of an Obsolete Species
This talk traces the extraordinary evolution of our ability to recognise patterns, learn, and shape the world. As we increasingly outsource thinking to machines, David Carvalhão asks a provocative question: are we expanding human intelligence or becoming obsolete?
He introduces the Cognitive Effort Model of Human Activity, a framework for anticipating AI’s impact on labour, inequality, and society—and invites the public into the discussion of the policies that will shape our shared future.
